Íris Damião

Íris Damião is a Computer Science PhD candidate at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) developing her thesis at the Social Physics and Complexity Lab (SPAC). She participates in the FARE audit project and she is particularly interested in studying algorithmic bias, (dis)information bubbles, online tracking techniques and its impacts on internet personalization. She enjoys learning about complex systems, network science, data science and data visualization.

As an advocate for science democratization and a wannabe artist, you will always find Íris eager to participate in science communication projects with the goal of taking significant scientific findings to a wider audience.

Íris holds a degree in Biomedical Engineering and Biophysics from the Faculty of Science, University of Lisbon. She completed her master's thesis in behavioral neuroscience at the Circuit Dynamics and Computation Lab at the Champalimaud Foundation. After completing her master's degree, Íris participated in the Gulbenkian Learning Portugal Project (GAP), a project aimed at helping children recover and advance their education, particularly those more hindered by the Covid-19 pandemic. Additionally, during her master's studies, she served as an assistant professor in the Physics department at the Faculty of Sciences.
