Íris Damião was one of 22 students worldwide selected to participate in the WINS Collabathon, which took place in early May 2023 (1st to 5th) at Northeastern University, Boston. This remarkable event, organized and attended exclusively by women and non-binary researchers, provided participants the opportunity to attend talks and tutorials by renowned scientists, allowing them to learn and develop their skills in the field of Network Science. In a highly inclusive, open, and collaborative environment, the participants worked on a team project, which they presented at the end of the week. Íris and four other students conducted a network analysis using graph-tool on data collected by the SPAC group within the FARE-Audit project, which corresponds to tracking information related to the online consumption of disinformation.
Importantly, this Collabathon empowered young researchers, who are often discriminated against or discouraged because of their gender in their respective fields, to create a strong network of connections, support, and collaboration to thrive in the future. Íris Damião is now a member of the WINS Society and has been contributing to the development of their website.
