Last week, the SPAC – Social Physics & Complexity Lab was represented at the ISCS in La Rochelle, presenting work focused on information propagation in social networks and political visibility in the digital space.
Ana Vranić presented the group's research on information propagation in social networks, exploring the use of cascades as a metric and demonstrating how they follow long-tail distributions—making the results particularly sensitive to sampling choices.
Mariana Silva presented two projects, led by Íris Damião and developed with other colleagues, on political visibility. These works show how biased the online space is (media, search engines, LLM-based chats) and Mariana won the Best presentation award.
